Fake ID Possession/Forgery

If a college student is caught with a fake ID, they may be charged with forgery in the second degree which is a class D felony. Under Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-139, forgery in the second degree is defined as the intent to defraud, deceive, or injury another by making, issuing, or possessing a written instrument that is known to be forged. This includes:

  • deeds, wills, contracts, or other instruments that can affect a legal right, interest, or obligation
  • a public record or instrument that is authorized by law to be filed in a public office
  • a written instrument created by a public office or government entity
  • a prescription by a licensed physician or other authorized person for any drug or drug administering device. [1]

At the University of Connecticut, a student who engages in activities that have a direct and negative impact on the school community and its objectives may be subject to student conduct proceedings. A case of off-campus misconduct can be referred to the student conduct system if the Director of Community Standards determines that it falls within the jurisdiction of the University. In addition, The Student Code can be carried out before, after, or during a student’s civil or criminal proceedings. [2]
