Underage Drinking Parties

The end of the school year brings several big events from prom to graduation, along with their subsequent parties and celebrations. As a parent, it is important to be aware of the risks associated with hosting underage drinking parties in Connecticut. Connecticut General Statutes § 30-89a states that permitting minors to illegally possess liquor at a home or on a private property, or failing to stop it from occurring, is a Class A misdemeanor. [1] In Connecticut, a Class A misdemeanor is punishable by up to one year in prison and up to $2,000 in fines. [2] In addition, Connecticut General Statutes § 30-86 states that providing alcohol to minors is a Class E felony [3] which is punishable by up to 3 years in prison and up to $3,500 in fines. If you get charged with hosting an underage drinking party or providing alcohol to minors, it is crucial to seek the assistance of an experienced attorney.
