Preparing for an IEP Meeting

As the parent of a special education student, it is important that you come to your child’s IEP meeting prepared. A good place to start is by requesting your child’s record from their school, including progress reports and evaluations. It is recommended that you take time to read and familiarize yourself with these documents prior to the meeting. It can also be beneficial to go over these documents with any professionals other than school staff who know your child best to get an outside opinion  Make sure you organize these documents and bring any relevant ones to the IEP meeting so you can be ready to discuss them with the rest of your child’s PPT.
