Purchasing Alcohol for a Minor

Connecticut General Statutes § 30-86 addresses the sale or delivery of alcohol to minors, and states: “Any person who sells, ships, delivers or gives alcoholic liquor to a minor, by any means, including, but not limited to, the Internet or any other on-line computer network, except on the order of a practicing physician, shall be fined not more than three thousand five hundred dollars or imprisoned not more than eighteen months, or both.” [1] This is a serious charge that can affect a student’s future at the University of Connecticut as well as their life beyond college. At UConn, a student’s off-campus activities may be referred to the student conduct system if it falls within the school’s jurisdiction and affects the school community and its objectives negatively.
