Differences in pay between employees are allowed when they are based on non-discriminatory criteria such as merit, seniority, or quantity or quality of production. However, pay differences may not be based on gender. Men and women in the same workplace must receive equal pay if their jobs are substantially equal in terms of skill, effort and responsibility, are performed under similar conditions in the same workplace.
