Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

The National Institute of Mental Health defines ADHD as: “an ongoing pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development.” The symptoms associated with ADHD include:

  • Inattention: making careless mistakes in schoolwork, difficulty paying attention during class, losing things, being easily distracted by outside stimuli, etc.
  • Hyperactivity-Impulsivity: fidgeting while seated, being in constant motion at inappropriate times, talking constantly, interrupting others, etc.

ADHD can seriously interfere with a student’s function and performance in school. Read more about ADHD on the NIH’s website here: https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/attention-deficit-hyperactivity-disorder-adhd
