Meeting

If you have questions regarding your child’s IEP, contact one of our attorneys at (203) 221-3100.

Actions to Avoid in an IEP Meeting

  • Arriving late and potentially missing important information
  • Not preparing for the meeting by reviewing your child’s IEP/progress reports beforehand
  • Lacking participation in the meeting by asking questions or giving input
  • Ignoring communication: if you have no relationship with the staff who work with your child you may be unable to discuss their progress
  • Refusing to share any concerns you have about your child and their education
  • Neglecting to ask for clarification if a member of the team uses unfamiliar language
  • Forgetting to bring key documents, assessments, or reports to the meeting
  • Allowing your emotions to take over the meeting and potentially create conflict
  • Focusing strictly on short-term goals for your child rather than the long-term vision
  • Not following up with the implementation of the plan and not staying in touch with the IEP team
