Connecticut Kindergarten Age Requirement

Public Act No. 23-208 states that all children who are five years old and over as of September 1st on any given year are eligible to attend public school and participate in the classes and activities provided by said school, and prohibits the discrimination of these children on the basis of color, sex, sexual orientation, gender, religion, national origin, or disability. In the case that a child has not reached the age of five by September 1st, there are two ways to be granted eligibility. First, the parent or guardian of the child can write to the principal of the school and request that their child be admitted, and second, the principal and a certified staff member of the school can conduct as assessment of the child to determine whether or not the child is developmentally fit for admission.
