Title IX Training Requirements

The U.S. Department of Education released the 2024 Title IX Final Rule on sex discrimination, which covers sex-based harassment (referred to as the “Final Rule”), on April 19, 2024. This updated regulation is scheduled to become effective on August 1, 2024.

In order to adhere to the Final Rule, all Title IX coordinators, investigators, decision-makers, and facilitators of informal resolutions must undergo annual training. To aid K-12 school districts in meeting this obligation, Shipman and Goodwin is organizing virtual Title IX Training sessions designed specifically for Title IX Coordinators, investigators, decision-makers, and informal resolution facilitators. This three-hour training is tailored for educators fulfilling these roles, offering detailed updates on the new Final Rule, practical advice on compliance, and strategies for effective implementation. This training also fulfills the mandated training requirements outlined in the Final Rule. Topics covered include:

  • Comprehensive overview of the 2024
  • Title IX Final Rule Protocols for addressing allegations of sex discrimination, including sex-based harassment
  • Effective methods for conducting investigations and rendering decisions, such as interpreting and applying the term “relevant” in relation to questions and evidence, and identifying impermissible types of evidence
  • Roles and obligations of Title IX Coordinators, investigators, decision-makers, and informal resolution facilitators
  • Impartial service guidelines, including avoiding prejudgment of facts, conflicts of interest, and bias
  • Procedures and norms linked with the informal resolution process
