What is CPAC?

CPAC is a statewide nonprofit organization in Connecticut dedicated to providing free information, training, and support to families of children aged birth to 26 with any disability or chronic illness. As Connecticut’s Parent Training and Information Center (PTI), CPAC is part of a network of PTIs established under IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) across the United States. PTIs are mandated by IDEA to offer free trainings and information to assist parents in several key areas:

  1. Understanding the nature of their children’s disabilities, educational, and developmental needs.
  2. Effectively communicating with school districts or early intervention providers.
  3. Participating in decision-making processes and the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and individualized family service plans.
  4. Accessing information about options, programs, services, and resources available to assist children with disabilities and their families.
  5. Understanding the provisions of IDEA related to the education and early intervention services for children with disabilities.
  6. Engaging in school-level activities that benefit their children.
  7. Participating in school reform initiatives.

Through these services, PTIs like CPAC empower parents to advocate for their children’s educational and developmental needs effectively.
